Etched Italian Partisan
- Dated: circa 1600
Broad 20 ½” blade with shallow medial ridge, pierced with half-moon shapes; side lugs in the form of birds heads at the base. Octagonal ferrule with turned baluster. Metal etched overall with sea serpents, acanthus leaf, and floral design. Mounted with shortened langets on a replaced octagonal shaft with brass dome-head nails and old tassel made from gold metallic thread.
Metal with minor pitting, mostly near the edges; the etching basically clear and crisp. Wood shaft with scattered worming. Length of metal 27 1/4”, overall 94 ½”. Scarce form of partisan, as most have plain lugs and etching only on the lower third.
